Ensuring clean water is available in abundance
Water is a unique and indispensable resource. Unfortunately, there are many towns and cities across the world that are struggling to cope with the ongoing pressures of underdeveloped municipal water systems, and strong population growth that drives them to the brink of capacity.
With this in mind, it is becoming increasingly important to create independent, sustainable water systems, rather than relying on centrally controlled large-scale infrastructure to provide all of the water.
A trusted proponent of Blue Mountain Co products – Hidrotecno was contacted by a factory manager in San Juan Ixhutepec to look at rainwater harvesting strategies as an effective and efficient solution in providing for commercial, industrial, and residential buildings looking to save water, money, and the environment.
San Juan Ixhutepec’s water journey
An important consideration for this factory was that they produced paints, varnishes, waterproof paints, and glues, so the potential for environmental contaminants needed to be considered.Â
Given the circumstances, an underground container was used for storage. Rainwater was utilised for cooling towers in the factory, showcasing the multiple opportunities that are presented when clean water is available in abundance.

The finer details of the systems
Some extra information about the products chosen for these systems:
Leaf Eater Commercial
The Leaf Eater Commercial Rain Head is a robust rain head designed specifically for large-scale and commercial buildings. They are built to handle huge volumes of water, to the tune of 20 litres per second. Easy to install, and even easier to maintain – the angled mesh screen ensures leaves, debris, and mosquitos are kept out of the rain harvesting system.
Maelstrom Filter
The Maelstrom Filter’s advanced design combines super-fine filtration and super-high water catchment efficiency to capture massive amounts of water while removing ultra-fine particles down to 180 microns.Â
Flap Valves
An important tool that ensures rain harvesting systems can handle high water flows and stay oxygenated. Flap Valves help keep pests out of the pipework while ensuring there is an unimpeded flow of water during rainfall events.
Tank Gauges
Tank Gauges give an indication of how much rainwater is stored in a tank or barrel. For areas where rainwater is essential, Tank Gauges help to keep track of water levels and how much water is available.Â
