Shut your downpipe off to prevent water flowing to your tank while you clean your roof and gutters. By preventing the water going to your tank you aren't contaminating your rainwater system with dirty water.

Shut your downpipe off, and connect a hose to capture and use the water flowing from your gutters. Run the hose wherever you need - it could be the pool, garden, or even to a rain barrel to store the water for use.
