Huge costs to supply mains water
Economic, Political and Environmental cost
The cost to supply mains or reticulated water services to homes and buildings is becoming more expensive every year. The construction of dams is a huge investment and the location of this infrastructure is often contentious.

Water stored in these dams is chemically treated to kill off contaminants before being distributed to households and industry through an extensive pipe network.
Whilst governments manage the process and foot the initial cost, this cost is ultimately recovered from individuals either through water rates or taxes.
